Carolina de Bilbao will be the star of the 5.5 million coupons for the ONCE draw next Sunday, January 8, as part of the “Un dulce?” series, with which the organization disseminates some of the representative sweet dishes of gastronomy of the country
The coupons were presented this Tuesday in Bilbao by the territorial delegate of ONCE in the Basque Country, Juan Carlos Andueza, together with the president of the Bizkaia Pastry Guild, Jos Manuel Angulo, the members of the board of directors Jos Ramrez, Jone Marcaida and Eduardo Bizkarra and the director, Elena Espeso.
As highlighted in the presentation, Carolinas are “one of the most exquisite and traditional desserts of Bilbao” and, according to “legend tells us”, they were born more than a century ago, when a pastry chef from the capital of Biscay “wanted to surprise his daughter for her birthday by making her a special cake”.
Its main ingredient is meringue, “little Carolina’s favorite dessert”, on “a thin flaky pastry” filled with custard and, “to finish, her pastry in the shape of an egg on one side and chocolate on the other” .
The series ‘A dessert?’ It will consist of 50 coupons, belonging to the Sunday lotteries. It is developed in collaboration with the Spanish Confederation of Artisan Pastry Entrepreneurs (CEEAP), whose objectives include the defense and representation of the needs of artisan pastry.
