The Swedish artist opens up about love.
Carola Häggkvist’s (56) love life has not only been a bed of roses. Between 1990 and 2000 she was married to the former Norwegian preacher Runar Sørgaard. Together they have a son, Amadeus.
In an interview with the magazine Elle she opens up about lows in life. A big downturn came when Carola was 28 years old. She says that she felt so bad in her body that she wondered how she was going to survive.
– My whole emotional life was chaos. The relationship with Runar, that I was so followed by the media. I needed alone time. I needed to do something normal, so I worked extra in a shop. I threw up because I felt so bad, says Carola to Elle.
– It was a great sadness
But that was not Carola’s biggest crisis in life.

– My worst life crisis was when I buried my heart alive. It was a love crisis. It was not Runar’s love. I’ve had some really great loves in my life. This was one of those when everything is right. I felt it could be something good. And I fought for it. But we couldn’t do it. It was a great sadness. My heart was closed to others after that. I compared everyone to him. I don’t do that anymore, says Carola.
Today, Carola is single, and she is honest that she simply hasn’t met the right one.
Big anniversary concert
At the age of 16, Carola Häggkvist broke through with the song “Främling” in the Swedish Melodifestivalen, where Carola ran away with the victory. In the Eurovision Song Contest 1983 in Munich, it finished third.
The single “Främling” went on to become a big hit in large parts of Europe, and the subsequent album from Carola sold one million copies in Scandinavia.
On 27 May this year, Carola will celebrate 40 years since she broke through with the song. The artist will celebrate the anniversary with a big concert in the Avicii arena in Stockholm, according to Today’s News.
