Carmen, Red Cross volunteer: “A young man has spent 100 euros on a cart full of baby food” | Radio Alicante | Present

The health crisis derived from COVID-19 has brought with him a economic and social crisis which is affecting hundreds of thousands of people throughout Spain. But above all, it has caused a food emergency unprecedented in the most vulnerable part of the population. Requests for help have exceeded all forecasts and, despite continuous donations, social entities are exceeded.

To make visible the difficult situation that thousands of people in our country face every day, the three major PRISA stations, SER string, LOS40 Y Dial, In collaboration with Carrefour Solidarity Foundation and Red Cross, have launched the operation #KilosDeSolidaridad.

This awareness campaign is accompanied by a major operation of food collection for the benefit of people in a social emergency situation. Contributions that, no matter how small, will help to minimize the difficulties faced by a large part of our society. “What can you afford?”.

Hoy por Hoy Alicante from Carrefour San Juan

The campaign will last until next Sunday, June 28 and during the first day our colleague Omar Sancho has gone through the Carrefour de Sant Joan d’Alacant, to know the good progress of the donations. A generosity that has been highlighted by the hypermarket director himself, Víctor Peris Camarena, in the Hoy por Hoy Alicante microphones.

But, in addition, we have also been able to chat with Carmen, a Red Cross volunteer, who excitedly remembered how a young man, in his early twenties, had spent more than € 100 and gave them a car full of baby food and without giving more explanations they have left. This woman acknowledged that she has received the donation with tears in her eyes and added that this is a splendid example of the great solidarity shown by the citizens.

Many of them, when they arrive at the Carrefour door, they do not need to be informed about the campaign, they take the initiative and are the ones who ask what foods they need the most.
