Carlos Zegarra: “The Bolivarians will leave more than medals, great experiences and interculturality”

The countdown begins to accelerate for the start of the Bolivarian Games of the Bicentennial Ayacucho 2024. This is also marked by the clock installed in the Plaza de Armas of Huamanga, where residents and visitors to the region take photos and become aware of the great contest that will take place between November and December of the current year.

The executive director of the Special Legacy Project, Carlos Zegarra, was also there, who led the delegation that participated in the activities for Holy Week, sharing the fervor of the Ayacucho people, as well as their enthusiasm and knowledge about the meaning of hosting the first multidisciplinary contest that It will be held in Peru after Lima 2019.

The director highlighted the legacy that the Games will leave, which provide a wonderful opportunity for all delegations, “more than 1,200 athletes can take home more than medals, great experiences, with a rich culture, in a bicentennial context, with so much history”.

He maintained that the contest will improve the vision and conditions for the development of sports in said city, because it will encourage “the creation of new sports infrastructure, it will link the people of Ayacucho with sports, with its diversification and will make the people demand sports over the years and cautioned him in his practice and in his execution at a competitive level,” he said.

For Zegarra, the Bolivarian Bicentennial Games are “a truly valid projection of life that the people of Ayacucho will know how to take advantage of.” He highlighted that organizing them will give Ayacucho “great lessons to take on challenges on its own,” even more so considering that in 2025 it will host, along with Lima, the first tournament of the next Olympic circuit.

The visibility of the city, its culture, history and notable figures will also be part of the legacy of these Games, which have four prominent representatives of the region as ambassadors. “This contest also serves to value these ambassadors, a window to project culture, which is also part of sport,” he stated.

Sport is also transversal, competitions like this are a way to become acculturated, socialize and for athletes to have the best of experiences, for their results to be seen in a scenario that lives up to their efforts,” he added.

The Bicentennial Games will, without a doubt, be the beginning of a stage of growth and development, decentralizing sport and also thinking about the Bolivarians of 2025, since “it will also be built by 2025, the sports infrastructure will be improved so that, Just as in Lima we can organize championships such as the Pan American and South American championships in more cities and Ayacucho can also do so,” said Zegarra before returning to the capital.
