Through a four-point statement, the current Comptroller General of the Republic, Carlos Hernán Rodríguez, spoke after the decision of the Council of State that annulled his election by Congress.

In it, Rodríguez expressed his satisfaction at being able to lead an entity of great importance for the functioning of the State and that, according to him, has a challenging plan to take the Comptroller’s Office to high levels of efficiency and effectiveness in the country. Likewise, he asks the officials of the entity to maintain their activities as usual and the operation is not altered.

“As a citizen, constitutional lawyer and teacher in this matter, I will echo the conception that I have always transmitted regarding the majesty of justice: its decisions are respected and fulfilled without ambiguity”maintained the hitherto head of fiscal control.

Rodríguez ended the statement by stating: “Without the intention of obstructing or altering the proper functioning of the institutions, but in accordance with the precepts of the social and democratic state of law adopted by the constituent, as well as the law and the jurisprudence of the High Courts, I consider it pertinent as a citizen to transit the paths that allow the reconsideration of those aspects that led to the resolution of the Honorable Council of State”.

It should be remembered that the decision of the Council of State is a single instance and cannot be appealed. However, Comptroller Rodríguez can request a clarification of the ruling, which suspends the effects of the ruling and in effect suspends the order that Congress initiate a new election process.
