After a 2023 season in which he finished as the worst New York Yankees pitcher, in record and effectiveness and after a long absence due to injury, the Cuban Carlos Rodón seeks to redeem himself during Spring Training 2024 but the image he left this Wednesday during his duel against the Tampa Bay Rays left much to be desired.
Rodón hoped that Wednesday’s day with the Yankees would end in a productive way for him, but just after the first pitch he knew that it was not his afternoon, when a pitch against fellow Cuban Yandy Díaz ended up in all the stands.
The pitcher who signed for five seasons and $162 million dollars in 2023 He left the ball in the power zone and regardless of what the initial pitch was, Díaz swung to immediately put the Tampa Bay Rays to victory..
Díaz’s home run was not the only one that Rodón allowed during his stay on the mound because after getting zeroes in the second and third innings, In the fourth he was received with a strong double against the wall by Amed Rosario and the next turn the Mexican Isaac Paredes again took the ball to increase the lead 3-0.
This was enough for Aaron Boone to make the decision to take the ball away from him and he finished his performance with three innings, with three runs allowed and five hits received.
With his performance, the left-hander placed his record at one win and one loss in Spring Training 2024 while the Yankees have accumulated five wins and six setbacks.
