The Cistercian Monastery of Santa María de Sandoval, located in the municipality of Mansilla Mayor, will host the presentation of Carlos Núñez’s new album, ‘Celtic Sea’, on Tuesday, August 6, with two concerts taking place at 7 and 9 pm – the latter already sold out.
The event is part of the Lugares Máxicos tour, which began almost a decade ago, to hold concerts in unique locations in Galicia, seeking to highlight its musical, architectural and gastronomic heritage, as well as environmentally friendly environments with seated audiences, for greater enjoyment of an experience that puts music first.
The scheduled start times and acoustics of the concerts allow us to “work in communion with nature, enjoying the best possible light show and spectacular sunsets,” say the organizers, adding that they also seek to contribute to the revival of small local economies by promoting quality ecotourism.
They add that these are concerts for the whole family, in which the musician Carlos Núñez and his band participate, as well as inviting new talents from each area. For this reason, they emphasize, they represent “an increasingly necessary intergenerational transmission experience.”
Tickets, priced at 22 euros, can be purchased from the Ataquilla website.
The disc
‘Celtic Sea’ is the result of a collaboration with Brittany Ferries to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the shipping company that connects the European Atlantic ports and on which three million people travel every year. The star track that gives its name to the album is a 40-minute ‘symphony’ with music from all the Atlantic regions, united by elements common to Celtic music for centuries or millennia, such as the ‘bagpipe rhythm’ or the binary harmony of ‘double tonic’.
