Carlos Latre: “It is very nice to be a transmitter of good vibes”

Charles Later (Castelln de la Plana, 1979) does not stop. In addition to participating in radio and television programs (“You freak out with my schedule, right?” he says), he’s in the middle of a tour of One Man Showa spectacle in which he unleashes his ability to imitate personalities of all kinds.

In this animated film recommended for all audiences, the versatile artist is in charge of lend his voice to Ika Chu, a villain who will embitter the protagonist’s life. The bad guys in the movies often give a lot of play, explains Latre. They give you brighter hues and colors and allow you to be a little exaggerated with the tones of your voice.

Defining Latre is not easy. Not even he himself clarifies (“perhaps it is, like the name of my show, a one man showBut, when she mentions that her daughter just turned 16, asking her how she saw her when she was younger makes her reflect: “I am an imitator, which is what defines me at the public level, but I have a lot of showman. Years ago, my daughter used to say a lot that I was a ‘theater person’ because she saw me there almost as much as on TV.”

And now I’m starting to meet people who tell me: ‘I see you the same way my daughter and granddaughter do’. It’s very cool and I’m delighted with my life and with the passing of the years. I always say to myself: ‘remember when you dreamed of being where you are?’ Therefore I can only be thankful…”

Of all the people he has imitated, the artist speaks with particular interest of politicians. “I’m glad that people from different parties like it. The last person to congratulate me was Isabel Daz Ayuso, the president of the Community of Madrid, who told me that she had loved. I agreed with her and she was very kind and had a great sense of humor. Just like the mayors of Madrid and Vigo. But also vice presidents, people in the Royal House… I think everyone sees that the background is positive and there is no evil. I have good vibes with all political classes. Now, when I talk to politicians, I ask for more humor, calm and normality. I think they distance themselves from people who are not positive.”

I have had the opportunity to perform in many theaters in the capital. I started at the Caldern Theater, then I went through Gran Vía and the last thing I did was at the Nuevo Alcal. Now I arrive at a new theater or, rather, remade, which makes me very excited. I hope I can fill you with laughter in the fall with my show One Man Show.

My family is very artistic. I am the son and grandson of painters. Many times I have told the anecdote that my grandfather was called Walt Disney. So, for one thing or another, whenever I have time I like to see museums. I love going to the Museo Thyssen. why? I think it has perfect dimensions to wear it many times. You don’t get overwhelmed and you can see traveling and classic collections that you like to review. And then I would also like to add the SOLO Collectionwhich is next to the Puerta de Alcal and of whose artistic worlds I declare myself a great fan.

When I was very little I liked to walk along the Callejn del Gato and discover the vision offered by those mirrors that distort reality. I love that Valleinclanesco Madrid where you feel comfortable walking on a summer night. With a bit of breeze, of course.
