Former CEO of Nissan Motor Co., Carlos Ghosn, said today, Tuesday, that the Japanese company and Renault are trying to cooperate on a “very small and limited” scale with a new agreement aimed at repairing their long-term alliance.

“With the latest agreement, they are trying to form a small alliance with a very limited scope of cooperation,” Ghosn told reporters in Tokyo via video link.

Nissan and Renault are holding discussions on a final agreement to reform their alliance, after announcing in January that the deal would see Renault reduce its stake in Nissan to 15% from about 43% to put the two companies on equal footing.

Regarding his trial, Ghosn said, “I did not have any opportunity for a fair trial in Japan, and I do not regret leaving it,” adding that the judicial system in Lebanon is sovereign like its counterpart in Japan, and witnesses will be summoned.
