In the most surprising turn of events, Carlos Alcaraz lost to Chile’s Nicolas Jarry in the semifinal of the 2024 Argentina Open. Alcaraz was the top seed in the tournament and it was supposed that he would easily cruise past all the opponents in this tournament to win the title before eventually shifting his focus to the Indian Wells. However, he has been unable to step up to those expectations, and this is by far his worst performance in a long while.
Alcaraz’s form saw a significant drop after he lost against Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal of the 2023 US Open. His performance in the Asian swing after that was downright disappointing, and that eventually helped Novak Djokovic maintain a stern lead at the top of the rankings and eventually become the year-end No. 1.
The Spaniard has been unable to register a significant victory after that and his loss to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal of the 2024 Australian Open was a testament to the fact that there has been no change in his form yet.
The World No. 2 is considered to be the ‘next big thing’ in tennis and he has even shown signs of that in many tournaments. However, inconsistency has been something that the youngster has been suffering from and it has become low-key worrying after his loss against Nicolas Jarry. The Chilean will now go on to play against Facundo Diaz in the final of the tournament. This was hands down one of his biggest wins in a while.
