Carlos Alcaraz remains on course for the final at Wimbledon. Among other things, because he did a bit of espionage.
Novak Djokovic was not amused. When training in Aorangi Park, he’s used to being watched by everyone. But now that it’s about his supremacy in Wimbledon and beyond, it got too colorful for him. At the Serbian news portal B92 he was upset that Father Alcaraz even filmed him.
“Everyone,” Djokovic lamented, “looks over your shoulder here,” everyone wants to see what they’re doing, what they’re working on. The excitement of the record Grand Slam champion, who is aiming to win his 5th straight title and 8th overall at Wimbledon, comes as a surprise – after all, Aorangi Park is not a restricted zone. Rather, it seems as if the excitement about «Spygate» (Daily Telegraph) indication of growing nervousness at Djokovic.
Alcaraz senior “watches every training session”
Carlos Alcaraz junior did not deny Alcaraz senior’s espionage, which is of course by no means forbidden, he replied with youthful, naive charm: His father was a tennis fan who was at the All England Club from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and watched it he “from everyone” the training. “If he had the opportunity to see Djokovic live, he probably filmed him too,” said the junior.

Alcaraz didn’t understand all the excitement before the semifinals on Friday anyway: He plays against Daniil Medvedev, Djokovic’s opponent is Jannik Sinner. Apart from that: If he wants to learn something from Djokovic: “There are enough videos on the internet.” And Alcaraz has long since admitted that he has already studied them extensively. He also looked to Roger Federer and Andy Murray for suggestions for playing on grass.
Following Djokovic’s Wimbledon footsteps
“I didn’t expect to play at such a great level on this surface,” said Alcaraz after his victory in the quarter-finals over the Dane Holger Rune. It is indeed remarkable: the 20-year-old Spaniard is only playing his 4th tournament on grass.
Alcaraz has already triumphed at the US Open 2022, is number 1 in the world rankings, learns rasen-d, frighteningly quickly for the competitors – and is now the youngest semi-finalist at Wimbledon since 2007.
Since a certain Novak Djokovic.
