Carlos Alcaraz was crowned Wimbledon champion against Novak Djokovic.

The sentence has been circulating in the tennis circuit for several years and has remained untouched until now: If the end of the Big 3 or Big 4 is to be finally sealed, then one of the young up-and-coming players has to beat one of the greats in the final of a Grand Slam. Since Sunday evening, this mission can be considered complete. Carlos Alcaraz is a Wimbledon winner and has achieved this long-awaited feat by beating Novak Djokovic in the final.

Alcaraz is making a similar mark as Roger Federer

It was similar when Roger Federer beat Pete Sampras in 2003: the new generation of tennis players took over and shaped a dynasty that smashed all records in tennis. In 2002, Lleyton Hewitt was the last non-Big 4 Wimbledon winner. Now, at the age of 20, Carlos Alcaraz achieved his first triumph at Wimbledon in an amazing way. Despite a clear first set and Novak Djokovic, who always fought back in the match, Alcaraz showed nerves of steel and wit to the end.

The chance that this final will also be a turning point or a symbol of the new generation in a few years is very high due to the performances and the dominance of the young Spaniard. Of course, Djokovic can still be expected at the upcoming Grand Slams. However, one thing has become clear to the tennis world with Alcaraz’s victory: Novak Djokovic can be beaten.
