Carlos Alcaraz Returns to Top of ATP World Ranking with Queen’s Club Triumph
LONDON – Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has reclaimed the top spot in the ATP world ranking following his victory at the Queen’s Club tournament in London. Alcaraz replaced Novak Djoković, who dropped to second place, while Russian Daniil Medvedev maintained his position in third.
The 20-year-old Alcaraz secured his first tournament title on grass, adding to his impressive record of 11 titles on the ATP circuit. This includes his triumph at last year’s US Open. Alcaraz has already won five events this year, solidifying his status as one of the rising stars in the tennis world.
In addition to Alcaraz’s ascent, there was another change in the top 10 of the world ranking. Italian Jannik Sinner moved ahead of American Taylor Fritz to claim the eighth spot. However, the best Slovak singles player, Alex Molčan, experienced a drop of eight places, landing him in 81st place. Norbert Gombos, Jozef Kovalík, and Lukáš Klein also saw their rankings shift in the latest edition.
Meanwhile, in the WTA world rankings, Polish tennis player Iga Swiateková maintained her position at the top. There were no changes in the top three, with Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenková in second place and Jelena Rybakinová from Kazakhstan in third.
American Jessica Pegulová climbed to fourth place, surpassing French player Caroline Garcia. Barbora Krejčíková also made her way into the top 10 from twelfth position. Czech tennis has two representatives in the top ten, with Petra Kvitová holding onto ninth place.
Among Slovak singles players, Anna Karolína Schmiedlová dropped two places to 76th. The latest ranking also saw Viktória Hrunčáková in 127th place and Rebecca Šramková in 174th.
