Carlos Alcaraz would like to have “the mentality of Rafa (Nadal), the class that Federer has in his game and in his movements and practically all of Djokovic’s shots, which are incredible.”
In an interview published this Friday by The Team Coinciding with his presence in Nice to participate in the Hopman Cup, Carlos Alcaraz explains what he most admires about the three tennis players who have marked this sport in recent years and explains several keys to his victory at Wimbledon last weekend, when he ousted Novak Djokovic in the final.
Since the defeat he suffered in the semifinals at Roland Garros against the Serbian, he points out that the main change has been “on a mental level, being aware that it is not abnormal for me to play these kinds of matches, that I have to approach them more relaxed, as if it were a routine”.
In practice, this meant that in the hours before the game he picked up his phone less, tried to cut himself off from the “noise around the game”, listened to more relaxing music -“acoustic music with a slow rhythm”-, visualized what the match would be like and did mental exercises that he had not done before.

Carlos Alcaraz aspires to have the best of Nadal, Federer and Djokovic after triumph at Wimbledon
The 20-year-old Spanish tennis player explains that before starting the Queen’s tournament, the idea of winning Wimbledon was “unimaginable” for him.
“It is true that you always tell yourself that you can do it, but let’s say that he only gave me a 10% chance. But when I won at Queen’s like I did, feeling very comfortable on that ground, I said to myself that I could win Wimbledon.”
Asked if he is aware that the views towards him now in Nice are going to change after his victory against Djokovic at Wimbledon, he affirms that it may seem “different to people, but I am the same boy and the same player that I have always been”.
Regarding his aspirations for this year, after having fulfilled his goal of winning a Grand Slam tournament, Alcaraz now sets another one: “to win a second.”
And for next year, to the question of whether it will be to beat Nadal at Roland Garros, his answer is that “it could be a good goal. But it will be the same every year: win a Grand Slam every year.
In addition, in 2024 the Olympic Games will be held in Paris and there “the goal is to get a medal.”
