He February 6, 2023, at 04:17 a.m., a magnitude 7.9 earthquake occurred in Pazarcık Kahramanmaraş district, southeastern Turkey, followed by up to 42 aftershocks, one of them measuring 7.6 magnitude.

In Turkey as of February 13, in the affected Turkish region there were more than 31,000 deaths and more than 80,278 wounded; 158,165 people were evacuated from their homes; 7,584 buildings have collapsed or are about to collapse and 12,617 have been seriously damaged. The total population that suffers the consequences of the catastrophe is 13,500,000 people.

The earthquake has seriously impacted northern Syria. 4.6 million inhabitants live in this region, of which 4.1 already depended on humanitarian aid, the majority women and minors. As of February 12, 2023, there were already almost 1,414 deaths and more than 2,349 injuries.
