Caritas revealed the purpose of the golden money containers

Famous and lesser-known people came up with various versions, speculating who and why placed golden containers with the inscription “Money” in the cities of Lithuania. A giant piggy bank? Otvelikos margitis-auksutis? Bank education for Financial Literacy Day? After three days of silence, Lithuanian Caritas revealed the purpose.

“Throwing money? Throw it right.” This is the message of the Carito social campaign and an invitation to deal with money purposefully. As the General Secretary of Lithuanian Caritas Deimantė Bukeikaitė says, sorting waste is finally self-evident. However, the awareness to sort funds is still very lacking.

This is confirmed by the data of the State Tax Inspectorate: even 70 percent. Year after year, Lithuanian residents who can give support do not give 1.2 percent to anyone. from the paid personal income tax (PIT). Unsorted money returns to the general budget, without providing the opportunity to feed, clothe, visit, listen, and provide shelter to thousands of people in difficult situations.

“I sincerely thank everyone who donates their 1.2% to Caritas every year. GPM. However, a very large proportion of people do not allocate a portion of personal income tax to support. We considered what could be the reasons for not providing support and how to get these people interested. What could motivate them to give support, what would draw their attention. This is how the idea of gold money containers was born. Allocate 1.2 percent GPM does not cost extra, and for Caritas every euro is worth its weight in gold”, says D. Bukeikaitė, inviting those who have never donated to do so this year. It will only take a few minutes and you will do a good job.

Director of the Lithuanian Social Sciences Center dr. According to Boguslav Gruževskis, the possibility of allocating 1.2 percent GPM in its own way is a school of democracy. “We often accuse the Government of misusing money. This is a means to do it right,” says the Vilnius University professor.

Golden containers with the inscription “Money” were taken immediately after Easter to ten Lithuanian cities – Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Alytus, Marijampolė, Druskininkus, Trakus, Jonava, Kėdainius – by the transport of the environmental management company “Ecoservice”, the partner of the project.

Decorated with promotional stickers on Friday, money containers will be in city squares until May 2, when the 1.2 percent expires. Timing of GPM support.

On April 21-23, the social campaign will be extended by Carito’s 34th birthday events in ten Lithuanian cities under the theme “Sort, but not people”. The best gift to Caritas on this occasion is your 1.2%. GPM. Click HERE for a guide on how to easily assign support by clicking HERE.
