Caritas Philippines has raised a total of P4 million in donations to help those affected by the oil spill caused by the sunken tanker MT Princess Empress in Oriental Mindoro. The Catholic social action arm expressed their gratitude for the generous donations on their Facebook page and highlighted that the struggle to protect the Verde Island Passage is ongoing. The Verde Island Passage is recognized for its high densities of marine resources and is between Mindoro Island and Batangas. Caritas Philippines is a member of the “Protect Verde Island Passage” network that aims to safeguard it. On Earth Day, the group joined the global community in calling for bold action to protect the planet and create a more sustainable future.
