Carinthian company wants to recycle plastic endlessly

A Carinthian company has set itself the goal of infinitely recycling plastics. Together with partners from Upper Austria and Styria, KRUWE GmbH is building a pilot plant for chemical recycling at its company site in Völkermarkt. The investment volume is 3.9 million euros, around 750,000 euros of which are funded by the Carinthian Economic Development Fund (KWF), as the state press service announced on Tuesday.

The mechanical processes currently used in plastic recycling have their limits: the plastic waste must be sorted according to type, and granules from mechanical recycling cannot be used to produce food packaging. Through chemical recycling, however, even contaminated plastics can be recycled – several times over, which is why an “infinite circular economy” is being striven for.

The pilot plant is built and operated by SynCycle Operations GmbH, which is owned by KRUWE GmbH in Carinthia, company owner Werner Kruschitz explained. The Upper Austrian Next Generation Elements GmbH and the Styrian BDI-BioEnergy International GmbH are on board as partners. The investment is intended to support plastics recycling companies already located in Lower Carinthia in achieving a higher degree of recycling quotas.
