Cargo planes crashed outside Hawaii – the crew survived

The news agency AP reports the plane crash, which happened on Friday. A cargo plane from the company Transair was going from Honolulu to Maui when the pilots reported engine trouble shortly after departure.

They tried to return to the airport, but reported that they had lost the engine power of one engine and that the other was overheated.

– This does not look good, one of the pilots must have told the air traffic controllers.

Shortly afterwards, the air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft and a large-scale rescue operation was launched.

Clinged to wreckage

The Coast Guard quickly arrived at the scene and located the two pilots, who were still alive. One clung to the rudder of the plane, but the other clung to some packages floating in the water.

– The plane began to sink and dragged one injured person under water. The Coast Guard crew managed to hoist this person. The other was rescued by one of the crews who swam and pulled the person on board the rescue ship, says Karin Evelyn from the US Coast Guard to AP.
