Air freight transport to and from the Netherlands fell significantly less in April than passenger aviation. This is reported by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Wednesday. The freight volume decreased by 25 percent, the number of travelers by 98 percent.
Freight traffic via the five national airports fell to 103,000 tons in April. A year earlier, this volume stood at 138,000 tons. Freight transport fell most sharply at Schiphol, at 26.4 percent, while Maastricht-Aachen Airport limited damage with a drop of 9.5 percent.
Passenger numbers dried up to 134,000 in April, down 98 percent from the same month a year earlier. There were no consequences at all from Rotterdam The Hague, Maastricht-Aachen and Groningen Eelde.
The average occupancy rate of the flights that were performed elsewhere was 29 percent. More than half of the number of passengers left for a destination within Europe in April. This was often the United Kingdom or Germany.
