“Carentan-les-Marais: Guest of Honor at the 101st Airborne Ball in Nashville, USA”

The city of Carentan-les-Marais, in Manche, was the guest of honor, this Saturday, May 20, 2023, of the annual ball of the 101st Airborne, organized in Nashville in the United States. This elite unit of the American army distinguished itself in June 1944 during the Battle of Normandy by liberating the Manchoise town.

The city of Carentan-les-Marais, its mayor Jean-Pierre Lhonneur and its first deputy were the guests, this Saturday, May 20, 2023, of the annual ball of the 101st Airborne, organized in the huge ballroom of the convention center of Nashville, Tennessee in the United States.

The small Norman delegation was received with great pomp by Generals JP Mac Gee, Commander of the 101st Airborne, Christopher Donahue, Chief of the XVIII Airborne Corps and General 4 stars James McConville, Chief of Staff of the Army of the UNITED STATES. These American soldiers underlined the historical weight of the Battle of Carentan in June 44but also the importance of the work of memory, carried out by the Normans, each year in June.

These US Army generals met in Carentan on May 31, 2023, to celebrate the 79th anniversary of D Day.
