The “Tagesthemen” presenter Caren Miosga received a lot of praise for her confident reaction late on Monday evening. She had been addressed in the program by her interlocutor Wolfgang Ischinger, the head of the Munich Security Conference, as “Ms. Slomka” – and that several times.
“Good evening, Ms. Slomka,” said Ischinger at the beginning of the conversation in the “Tagesthemen” – he never spoke to Marietta Slomka, who moderates “heute journal” on ZDF. Caren Miosga was not upset: “My name is Miosga. Hello Mr. Ischinger. Never mind, ”said the 52-year-old, who couldn’t help but smile.
Ischinger didn’t seem to have noticed the hint or just ignored it – he addressed Miosga at least two more times as “Ms. Slomka” during the several-minute conversation. The refrained from correcting him again.
This caused amusement on Twitter during the broadcast, with many praising Miosga’s reaction as “sovereign”.
Other users also criticized it as “disrespectful” that the Russia expert consistently used the wrong name.
A visual guide was often shared on Twitter so that the faux pas doesn’t happen again: the two well-known news presenters can be seen side by side on the photo montage.
The mistake is all the more astonishing because the two journalists have been the faces of the respective news programs for many years: Caren Miosga has moderated the “Tagesthemen” since 2007, Marietta Slomka is even six years longer as a presenter at “heute-journal”.
