DECRYPTION – While the dissolution had made this text obsolete, the new government has just brought it back to the forefront of the political scene.
And « sledgehammer », and « hot-cold »… Caregivers opposed to euthanasia and assisted suicide welcomed Michel Barnier‘s latest announcements on the end-of-life bill as a « very bad surprise ». After the twist of the dissolution, they hoped to see this sensitive text buried or postponed indefinitely. Especially since some of the ministers of the new government – from Bruno Retailleau to Patrick Hetzel – had fought against assisted dying in Parliament.
But at the beginning of October, on France 2, Michel Barnier not only said he was in favor of this major societal reform, but he promised to resume examination of the bill “ when it was interrupted » pour « save time ».
