According to Richard, eating carbohydrates and protein alone can lead to a high risk of avitaminosis or nutritional deficiencies. In fact, the body also needs a variety of vitamins and minerals that can only be obtained from vegetables and fruit to maintain organ function and endurance.

“Therefore, we consider a balanced combination of consumption of animal protein but with reduced portions, as well as increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables, as in the flexitarian method, we consider it the most ideal consumption pattern,” he said.

Meanwhile, a nutrition consultant, Dr. Rita Ramayulis DCN MKes, said that to maintain endurance, people must be more careful in choosing a healthier but more flexible diet. “The goal is that people can get the best benefit from the type of diet they choose without worrying about lack of nutrition and energy,” said Rita.

According to Rita, as many as 93.6 percent of Indonesians do not consume enough fruits and vegetables every day for the body. The flexitarian method can be a fairly easy choice for people who are just starting out with a healthy and sustainable lifestyle to adopt.
