Career Highlights of Mario Daniel Cáffaro: A Distinguished Santafesino Journalist

He arrives at the newsroom every nap, says a general “hello” to everyone and settles down at his desk. As a good “old school” journalist, first things first: he will organize his paper agenda (with a certain nostalgia that analogue is still useful), he will scribble some notes on the afternoon’s topics, then he will respond to messages on WhatsApp and publish some tweets .

Only later will he approach his colleagues, make some football comment and ask: “Hey, is that mate okay?” “Yes, Mario, here.” The return of shared mate in the post-pandemic caused the camaraderie of camaraderie to be recovered. Days ago it was his birthday. A tennis fan, he said that his teacher greeted him: “Happy birthday to ‘Roger Federer from Santa Fe’.” His response was: “Wait, I haven’t retired yet, I want to continue playing!” There were widespread smiles.

Mario Daniel Cáffaro (64), journalist from El Litoral and the university radio station LT10, was declared “Outstanding Santafesino” by the Municipal Council of the city of Santa Fe. The distinction is, neither more nor less, a recognition of his extensive career as a graphic and radio communicator specialized in political, legislative and economic issues.

The graphic record is from March 31, 2021. In the provincial Senate, recognition was given to El Litoral and the journalists Mario Cáffaro and Luis Rodrigo. Pablo Aguirre

“With the return of democracy, Cáffaro was one of the pioneers in participating in the UNL station, a time of great importance: for respect for human rights, for diversity and for a critical vision of reality. His primary function since 1986 was related to legislative issues, in LT0 and in El Litoral, both in the coverage and in the analysis of the debate in the chambers,” highlights the statement, authored by councilor Hugo Marcucci (UCR). .

Chronology of a career

Mario Cáffaro was a member of the editorial team in the Sports section of the newspaper El Federal, from 1983 to 1984; He was Head of News at the newspaper Hoy en la Noticia from 1985 to 1987, and in 1999 he became head of the Politics and Economy section of El Litoral. For 20 years he has been the host of “El Cuarto Poder”, first hour, and later accompanies Guillermo Tepper in the central edition of that radio program. In addition, he participated on television for three years with Teresa Pandolfo in a weekly cycle of opinion and interviews. He is currently part of Somos on “Star Show”.

“Mario makes journalism his passion and demonstrates it in his constant dedication. This implies the permanent search for instant and quality information, for which knowledge and management of sources is required, which not only provide timeliness but also veracity,” Marcucci praises in his arguments.

Cáffaro has been covering the sessions of the Chamber of Deputies for years. “The legislative chronicle can be explained as a type of journalism that interprets the Legislative Branch, analyzes the political repercussions of decision makers and investigates laws. Beyond ideologies and convictions, intellectual honesty is the necessary tool to carry out the function efficiently,” adds the councilor. The “Santafesino Destacado” more than responds to this professional demand.

“Priesthood”

The journalist was born on October 31, 1959 in Clucellas, Castellanos department. He never forgets that town of just over a thousand inhabitants. He returns from time to time, on the occasion of some celebration. “Familiar” like few others, a fierce protector of his circle of friends, he knew how to make political journalism the closest thing to a priesthood, even if it falls into a cliché.

The evening is approaching in the editorial office. After intense calls made and with his fingers writing quickly on the keyboard, the journalistic information is ready. Mario Cáffaro will say goodbye to the editorial office with a “people, it will be until tomorrow.” Very early, around 5:30 the other day, his voice will be heard from the microphones of the university radio, reporting the main titles of the day.
