Careem Partners with PaySky to Provide Express Payment Solutions for Captains in Egypt

20-25% of Careem rides are paid by cards, as captains prefer cash for daily needs

The “Yalla” platform enables captains to receive their profits in a matter of minutes

The percentage of payment for trips by cards is expected to double with the new platform

Careem, the leading multi-service application in the region, announced its partnership with PaySky, the leading money technology and electronic payment solutions company in the Middle East and Africa, to provide the best express payment solutions for Careem Captains in Egypt, by using their digital payment platform. Let’s go”.

Yalla is an integrated digital system launched by Bay Sky in Egypt in partnership with Egypt Post. It provides a variety of financial services such as sending and receiving money, saving and investing, paying online and in stores, in addition to non-financial services such as ordering daily needs and medicines and many offers and discounts. Yalla Super App downloads have reached more than 2 million times, more than one million cards have been issued so far, the number of transactions exceeded 7 million transactions, and the total value of transactions reached more than 7 billion pounds in the first nine months of its launch.

Through this joint effort between Careem and PaySky, Careem aims to enhance the payment experience for its Captains, giving them quick and secure access to their earnings once the ride is over. Prior to this cooperation, Careem Captains had to wait up to 24 hours to access their earnings from trips that were paid by cards, and this was limited to working days only. Because of this, many Captains prefer cash-paid rides over card-paid rides, as currently only 20-25% of Careem rides are paid for with credit cards.

The “Yalla” platform will enable Careem Captains to easily access their profits within minutes of initiating the payment request on the Careem Captain application, by using the payment method that is previously added to the settings via the PaySky account on the Careem Captain application. This will enable Captains to easily collect their money on the Yalla application and use it to pay or purchase any of their daily needs through the Yalla application, or withdraw money from any ATM in the world using the Yalla card. This process ensures the smoothness and speedy access of captains to their profits.

Wael Ibrahim, General Manager of Careem in Egypt commented: “Careem customers usually prefer to pay with credit cards due to the ease of dealing with them and being a safer method. However, at present, only 20-25% of customer journeys with Careem are paid by credit cards, This is because captains prefer cash payments. Our partnership with “Yalla” is a big step for Careem Captains in Egypt and a radical solution to this challenge, and we expect that the rate of payment by cards will double, which will positively affect our customers’ experience significantly.

For his part, Mohamed Shebl, Executive Director of Operations for Careem in Egypt, commented: “Captains are at the heart of everything we do at Careem, and we are always looking for new and convenient ways to simplify their lives. Today, a large part of Captains prefer that trips be paid in cash to ensure that they reach their profits within Through our partnership with Bay Sky and Egypt Post, we have provided them with a solution that simplifies and speeds up receiving payments so that they can collect their profits at the end of the trip. This is available through Yalla, which effectively addresses the challenge of card-paid trips for captains and customers alike.”

Dr. Walid Sadek, Founder and CEO of BySky and Yalla Super App, expressed his pleasure in cooperating with Careem to lead the provision of smart transportation services. This step is in addition to the successes achieved by Yalla in a record period, and is in line with the commitment of the two entities to provide appropriate digital financial solutions to provide easy and fast payment solutions for Careem Captains. The Yalla Solutions group addresses the challenges and difficulties faced by companies that are looking for solutions that are not readily available in the market and offers a set of comprehensive solutions through the business platform “Yalla” and the “Yalla Card”. BaySky always strives to provide financial technology solutions through its various capabilities in the field of electronic payment and its continuous follow-up to participate in achieving the goals of financial inclusion and digital transformation of the country.
