The Director of Cardique, Angelo Bacciindicated that these works carried out by the Corporation were requested by the communities during the tables of the Institutional Action Plan (PAI), the Mayors of each of the municipalities, and all the actors in each of the territories.
“These are works that improve the flow of water from streams, through the construction of box culverts, canalizations and other infrastructures that bring benefits to ecosystems and communities. Today we chose ‘La Línea’, in the jurisdiction since 2020 more than 120 works have been carried out and more than 30 are planned for this periodBacci said.
The official added that the most important thing is to find the satisfaction of the communities for these works that, without a doubt, have improved the lives of many inhabitants of the jurisdiction of the corporation and above all the improvement in their environment.
The visits
The verification tour of works carried out in the “La Línea” area began in Santa Rosa, where the operation of the Vía Campaña culvert box, the channeling and construction of three culvert boxes in the Maretira Canal and the channeling and construction of another three culvert boxes in the Los Olivos channel were confirmed. “Actually we are happy with these works because finally these streams were channeled and thus floods are avoided in the rainy season,” said Leonel Suárez, a resident of the El Trébol neighborhood of Santa Rosa.
Similarly, Mariano Olivero, a farmer from Santa Rosa, added that since the culvert box was built on the Vía Campaña and part of the stream was channeled, the floods have stopped.
Subsequently, Cardique’s team arrived at Zipacoa, corregimiento of Villanueva, where Cardique carried out a great work in the stream of the same name. “We comply with the cleaning and protection of the slopes of approximately 500 linear meters of the Zipacoa stream. The works included the installation of geomats for the protection of the bottom of the stream, gabions for the protection and stabilization of slopes with the installation of erosive geomats”, said Bacci.
The community celebrated the completion of this work that prevents floods and landslides, but also directs the waters in the rainy season, thus reducing sedimentation in the bodies of water.
Likewise, also in the rural area of Villanueva, the Cardique commission inspected the operation of the box culvert on the Tabacal stream. It was found that this work improved the passage of rainwater and prevented it from overflowing.
“We thank Cardique because for this important work, we peasants are no longer cut off in winter, since the streambed continues its course without overflowing,” said Pedro Rodríguez, a peasant from the sector.
Then, the visit of the officials reached San Estanislao de Kotska, exactly as far as the Mango de Pua II village, where the community was pleased with the construction of the Culvert box on the Doña Juana stream and the channeling of part of it. In winter this community does not suffer from the overflow of the stream, guaranteeing the transit of the waters.
Similarly, the directors and the Director of the Dique Canal Autonomous Corporation (Cardique) On today’s tour they visited San Estanislao de Kotskaone of the six bioclimatic nurseries, which use new technologies by implementing an automated irrigation system, powered by solar energy, which makes them friendly to the environment.
In accordance with Angelo Bacci, director of Cardiquethis project seeks to empower communities because it leaves them with an infrastructure for the production of plant material that, on the one hand, will serve to guarantee the environmental recovery of their territories and, on the other, promote environmental education within the framework of planting of native species from each of the areas where we arrived with this strategy.
Likewise, in Saint Stanislaus The concrete construction of 221 linear meters of the Los Verdugos canal was also inspected, which not only prevents flooding, but also changed the face of the area. Inhabitants of the Los Verdugos sector welcomed the visit of the Cardique officials.
The last work to visit was in Soplaviento. There, the cleaning and conformation of the El Calvario stream was completed, after the Pascual culvert box in an approximate length of 220 linear meters, an area that serves as a spillway for the waters that collect the internal channels of the municipality, so that they are then channeled directly to the Tupe-Sarzal-Capote swampy complex. The removal of 6,490 cubic meters of sediment was carried out, as well as the installation of anti-erosive geomats on the slopes, the installation of a pipe culvert and a hinge valve to prevent the return of the waters of the swamp when their levels are Taller
