Cardinal Parolin Ordains Bishop Penemot as the Pope’s Ambassador to Pakistan

The following day, on August 12, Cardinal Parolin will ordain Bishop Germano Penemote, who was appointed by the Pope as Nuncio to Pakistan on June 16 this year , the first Angolan to serve as Pope’s representative.

Cardinal Parolin has visited Africa many times, but this is his first visit to Angola. “I am very happy to be here, this is my first time,” the cardinal said to the faithful who had gathered outside the Holy See’s embassy in Luanda to welcome him. “I also bring you Pope Francis,” he added. Even though I will not be here long, as we are going to Onjiva immediately, I know that the entire Angolan Church will be present at the ordination of the first nuncio from this land.”

The Ordained Mass of Msgr. Penemote took place on August 12 in the diocese of Ondjiva, in the province of Cunene. The following day, on the 13th, Cardinal Parolin will return to the Archdiocese of Luanda to pray with members of the Community of St. Paul.

On his arrival at Luanda’s international airport, the Secretary of State was greeted by bishops from Angola and the Episcopal Conference of Sao Tome, the faithful and representatives of government agencies. When the cardinal came to the Holy See embassy, ​​he was warmly welcomed by the faithful. The cardinal recited the Our Father with the faithful, then greeted the staff of the embassy and went to the chapel to pray.

In an interview with local media, Cardinal Parolin repeatedly stated that he came to Angola to preside over the ordination ceremony. He stressed that the event was “important both for the universal Church and for this land,” and said he had never been in the past. “For this precious opportunity, I value being here.” He added that Ambassador Penemot’s ordination “has a special relationship for Rome, because the ordained bishop will be the Pope’s representative, and And the first papal representative from this land”.

Asked about the possibility of Pope Francis visiting Angola, the Holy See Secretary of State said: “Who knows… I am not a prophet, but I think the Pope is very interested in this possible trip and has already expressed his desire to see the next Visiting Africa. I’m sure he sincerely wants to be here.”
