However, Cardiff City has paid the first part of the sale of the deceased striker Emiliano Sala to the French Nantes. As a result, the championship club can simply attract players in the upcoming transfer period.
Nantes sold the 28-year-old Sala to Cardiff in 2019 for €17m. Two days later, the Argentine striker was killed in a plane crash on his way to Wales. The clubs have jointly tried to find a solution for the financial settlement, but without success.
Nantes went to FIFA and was right by the world football federation. Cardiff appealed, but the CAS sports tribunal also ruled last summer that the British club had to transfer the first tranche of €6m.
Cardiff were initially unwilling to pay and would not be allowed to sign any players during this transfer window as punishment. Less than a month ago, chairman Mehmet Dalman said the club would not change their mind, but Cardiff are back on that.
By paying the first part of the transfer fee, the English Football League (EFL) has lifted its ban on signing players. Cardiff can therefore simply attract players this month.
Cardiff City were relegated from the Premier League in the 2018/2019 season and have been playing in the second division ever since. The Welsh club currently occupy twentieth place in the league.
