Cardiac surgeon reveals why he didn’t operate on his mother, citing emotional difficulty and invasion of privacy.

Al-Marsad Newspaper: Cardiac surgeon Professor Zuhair Al-Halees revealed, during an interview with the “Al-Liwan” program, the secret of not performing a heart operation on his mother before her death.

Al-Halees answered the question of the presenter of the program, “Abdullah Al-Mudaifer,” and he said, “Your mother was suffering from heart problems and needed an operation… Why did you refuse to perform a heart operation on her, even though you are a heart surgeon?”

Dr. Zuhair Al-Halees said, “With regard to the father and mother, having one of them sick in front of you and having his chest cut open is somewhat difficult. In the end, I persuaded her to perform the operation through a colleague.”

He added, “Most surgeons refuse to perform operations on their relatives, except rarely, because of emotion, as it is in control, and you feel that you are somewhat invading the patient’s privacy, so when he is a relative of yours, it is something difficult.”

And he added: I did not blame myself for not performing the operation for my mother, who died a few months after the operation. On the contrary, I thanked all the colleagues who performed the operation because they did not fall short, and everyone was taking care of it.
