Cardiac arrhythmias, at Monzino the new technology that revolutionizes diagnosis and treatment

Professor Tondo’s team performed the first procedure with the most cutting-edge technological system in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and supraventricular tachycardias.

It was successfully carried out yesterday at Monzino Cardiology Center of the teacher’s team Claudio Tondodirector of the Arrhythmology department, the first ablation procedure with Bring it on™a revolutionary, safe and effective method, which creates a new paradigm in the field ofelectrophysiologysimultaneously performing diagnosis and treatment procedures.

Monzino thus confirms itself at the forefront in Italy for the care of patients with cardiac arrhythmias like the atrial fibrillation and the supraventricular tachycardiasdiseases that affect over 1 million people.

Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias. It is estimated that the prevalence of atrial fibrillation (i.e. the percentage of people who have received a diagnosis) in our country is approximately 2% in the general population, with a higher incidence among the elderly: percentage than in older people at age 75 it can exceed 10%.

Every year, in Italy, approximately 120 thousand new cases of atrial fibrillation are diagnosed. This heart rhythm disorder is associated with an increased risk of stroke, heart failure and mortality, making it essential to adopt effective and innovative treatments.

The Affera™ system responds to this need. In fact, it offers the possibility of carrying out high-density mapping and delivering both radiofrequency and pulsed field energy with a single dedicated catheter, i.e. a single tool used for both diagnosis and treatment. The intervention is extremely efficient, less invasive and quicker than systems that use traditional catheters.

“For years we have effectively treated patients with traditional thermal ablation systems, in particular cryoablation, and today we are proud to be able to offer them a better treatment option thanks to a more advanced technological solution,” says Professor Tondo.

And he adds: “The current treatment standards and related technological limits are overcome today by the new Affera™ integrated system which allows us to increase the efficiency of cardiac ablation procedures by eliminating the need to exchange diagnostic and therapeutic catheters. At Monzino we are proud to once again be pioneers in the treatment of arrhythmias and to be able to say that if there is a new technology in the world, it is available or in the testing phase with us.”
