Cardi B is taking on a new role.
For the first time ever, rapper “WAP” will take the stage as host of the 2021 American Music Awards when it airs live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 21 at 8 pm EST / PST on ABC.
“When I received the invitation to host the AMAs, I was very excited,” Cardi B said in a statement. “I’m ready to bring my personality to the AMA stage! Thanks to Jesse Collins, ABC and MRC for making this happen.
“We are immensely excited that dynamic Cardi B is bringing her contagious energy to the American Music Awards as a host for the first time,” added executive producer Jesse Collins. “She will thrill viewers, push boundaries, and deliver a show that will be remembered forever!”
Five-time AMA winner Cardi B previously sang “I Like It” with J Balvin and Bad Bunny at the 2018 awards. She also made history, becoming the first rapper to win Favorite Hip-Hop Song twice in 2018. and 2020.
Cardi B joins a prestigious roster of past AMA hosts including Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, LL Cool J, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Tracee Ellis Ross, Lionel Richie, and last year’s host Taraji P. Henson.
Cardi received four nominations at this year’s AMAs, including Favorite Hip-Hop Female Artist, Favorite Music Video, Favorite Hip-Hop Song, and Favorite Hip-Hop Song for her hit on the “Up” charts.
