In the past, the founder of Cardano (ADA) and CEO of IOHK sometimes look forward to Ethereum (ETH). Hoskinson recently stated even that the main ‘Ethereum Killer’ would be Ethereum itself. Hoskinson believed the project was doomed to fail in the end. Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin also had little good to say about Cardano and Hoskinson. The relationship between the two was difficult to say the least.
During a podcast with Lex Friedman Vitalik Buterin now seems to say that they have made peace, as it were. “We’ve both grown quite a bit,” Hoskinson said in response to the Buterin podcast.
In the podcast, Buterin and Friedman mainly talk about Ethereum, but Cardano also comes to light in the podcast. Buterin even indicates that he thinks Cardano and the academic research that IOHK does is very interesting.
However, he also states that he thinks the academic focus of Cardano and IOHK is ‘overvalued’. According to him, most errors take place outside the models. So you only get to a certain point with only academic knowledge. Of course he doesn’t want to praise the competitor too much.
Hoskinson, of course, also co-founded Ethereum along with Buterin, but ultimately disagreements over the future of the project led to Buterin parting ways with Hoskinson in 2014. Since then, there has always been a degree of friction between the two.
So now it looks like they’ve sorted it out. Despite the competing positions of the two projects, a hostile attitude towards each other obviously makes little sense. Therefore, this also appears to be a positive development. Next week, Hoskinson will be a guest on Lex Friedman’s podcast.
