Carbon capture at Klemetsrud rescued after giant acquisitions – NRK Oslo and Viken – Local news, TV and radio

This is confirmed by sources in central Oslo municipality to NRK.

The rescue consists of three companies buying Fortum’s share of the district heating player Fortum Oslo Varme for NOK 10 billion.

Do not reach the goals without

Capturing and storing carbon from Oslo people’s rubbish is absolutely crucial for Oslo to achieve its very ambitious climate goals.

Oslo will cut its CO emissions by 95 percent by 2030. The incineration plant at Klemetsrud accounts for between 15 and 17 percent of the emissions, calculations show.

The prestige project has so far stalled that the EU has refused to participate and pay.

As far as NRK understands, the acquisition secures carbon capture and storage without funds from the EU’s innovation fund.

Fortum Oslo Varme received in November refusal on its application for NOK 1.8 billion from the EU. On March 1, they applied again.

It is estimated to cost NOK 6.8 billion to build the plant. The plans are part of the state project Longship.

The state has promised 3 billion in support if they secure the rest of the money from other sources.

10 billion

Oslo Municipality invites to a press conference at 10 am about what they describe as a major transaction in the energy sector and carbon capture at Klemetsrud.

Fortum sells its half of the district heating player Fortum Oslo Varme to the three companies Hafslund Eco, Infranode and HitecVision for NOK 10 billion.

Fortum Oslo Varme owns the incineration plant at Klemetsrud, far E6 south of Oslo. Today, Oslo Municipality and Fortum each own half of the company.

Half of Oslo Municipality’s will be transferred to the power giant Hafslund Eco, which Oslo Municipality owns in its entirety.

After the sale Hafslund Eco will own 60 percent of the district heating player, while Infranode and HitecVision will own 20 percent each, it appears from a stock exchange announcement which is discussed by NTB.
