With the aim of promoting awareness about the prevention of breast cancer through self-examination and annual mammography, in addition to educating the population about the importance of health, DIF Cajeme in coordination with Hospital San José, Agrupación George Papanicolaou and Asociación Somos Contigo, extended an invitation to the entire community to join the 12th Caravan for Life, which will take place this coming Thursday, October 17, starting at 5:00 pm and whose route will begin from the street. 200 and Miguel Alemán until you reach the Municipal Palace.
The General Director of DIF Cajeme, Claudia Fabiola Santacruz Avilés, representing Dr. Martha Patricia Patiño Fierro, President of Volunteering, mentioned that DIF Cajeme is committed to supporting those who need it and participating in activities that promote care and health.
“We are proud to participate and collaborate in the 12th Caravan for Life, in coordination with the San José Hospital. This event is not only a show of solidarity, but also a reminder of the importance of early detection and community support. From the heart, we accompany all the people and families who are going through this difficult situation, with the hope of a future full of life and health for all,” he expressed.
Paloma Román, marketing manager at Hospital San José, thanked the Cajeme City Council and the media for their participation, because they play a fundamental role in disseminating this noble cause to reduce the stigma and taboos that still persist around this disease, collaborate in the conversion of October as the pink month where the voice of those fighting against breast cancer is unified and support is offered to survivors and their families.
“What we are looking for is to create a culture of prevention, since unfortunately, currently breast cancer has the highest mortality rate in Mexico so that means that we still have a lot of work to do, we have to get the message out. “That the only way to combat it is self-examination and, of necessity, having an annual mammogram because early detection ensures quality of life,” said Paloma Román.
For her part, Dr. Laura Pérez Michel, medical oncologist at Hospital San José, added a brief explanation where she stressed that the complexity of breast cancer is that it is not just one disease, but rather there are different diseases that vary depending on the organism of the patient. Each person and cancer can present in different ways, which evolves into various treatment pathways and therefore timely prevention plays a fundamental role in successful cases.
Also participating during the conference were Pili de Landeros, president of the George Papanicolaou Group, who informed the women who wish to undergo mammography or cervical cancer studies that they will be on the esplanade of Plaza Álvaro Obregón on October 22 and will have active health days. all month to come to their facilities, which was joined by María de Jesús Sepúlveda, representative of the Asociación Soy Contigo, who expressed that her association also has its doors open for people who suffer from this disease as well as their families, by offer a safe space with an emotional support network, where there is accompaniment, recreational activities and seeking to maintain joy and strengthen emotional stability.
