Caravan and camping chairs more popular than ever on Marktplaats | Money

That makes the sales platform known. Due to uncertainty surrounding the corona pandemic and changing measures in various holiday countries, many Dutch holidaymakers opt for safety: with their own car on holiday and then camping.

This can be seen on Marktplaats. The most sought after camping gear are roof boxes, roof racks and camping tables and chairs.

Motorhomes and caravans were searched more than 9 million times. With an average of 10,000 motorhomes and caravans per month, supply is lagging behind demand. “Every year from May onwards, we see an increase in the number of searches for motorhomes and caravans,” says Marktplaats spokeswoman Maaike Veeling.

“This year the search started in January and the demand still remains high. So strong that the supply is not up to scratch at all, we also hear that from the business providers on our platform.”

With regard to camping gear, the search behavior for the roof rack doubled. More than three times as often as last year, the Dutch searched for camping tables and chairs.

Last week, trade association BOVAG already announced that there was a record sales of motorhomes in the first half of 2021. In total, more than 2000 new motorhomes were sold, almost 16% more than last year. The sale of second-hand motorhomes was more than 40% higher in the past six months than in the first half of 2020.
