This Sunday, March 10, Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz suffered a spectacular fall in the last stage of the Tirreno Adriatico race.
The “Locomotive” was not fighting for the general classification, currently in the hands of the Dane Jonas Vingegaard. However, about 23 kilometers from the end of the stage, Carapaz lost control and fell, resulting in his withdrawal from the competition.
The team stated: ““He is undergoing further medical evaluation.” This mishap calls into question his participation in the Tour of the Basque Country and reduces the opportunities to add kilometers in a season that has already been tenuous in European territory.
The next race will begin on April 1, with top contenders such as Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar expected to attend. Both are considered top favorites for the Tour de France in June this year.
Although the Grande Boucle is Richie’s main goal, these types of incidents unfortunately take him away from his best form to compete with the great “monsters” of cycling.
