Caracas considers Gonzalez investigation ‘case closed’

(ANSA) – CARACAS, 09 SEPTEMBER – The conspiracy case brought by Venezuelan justice against opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia will be closed in the coming days following the exile in Spain of the former conservative presidential candidate in July. This was announced by Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab in an interview with CNN. “In the coming days, together with González’s lawyer, we will establish the form, time, manner and place in which this case will be closed in accordance with the Constitution and Venezuelan laws,” he said. González has an arrest warrant pending on charges of criminal association, usurpation of public office, falsification of public documents, incitement to crime, sabotage and damage to state computer systems following the publication on the Internet of the electoral minutes – until now kept secret by Caracas – which would demonstrate the former diplomat’s victory in the disputed elections of June 28. “We will do everything necessary, always in strict compliance with international law and human rights,” Saab added.
