Carabinieri pay for hotel for elderly indigent woman

She wanted to see the places she had lived as a girl again, but having only a minimal pension, to spend the night she lay down on a sun lounger on the beach of Marina Julia, in Monfalcone (Gorizia). When the police found her and heard her story of poverty, they accompanied her to a hotel so she would not spend the night out in the cold, and they paid for a night in a room.
The protagonist of this story is a 74-year-old woman, resident in Friuli with a past as a poet and writer, who wanted to recall the memories and emotions of when, as a girl, she spent the summer on the Adriatic coast.
She was found on Saturday night around one o’clock by a marshal and a carabiniere from the Monfalcone station: the two, while passing in front of the entrance of a bar, located in the immediate vicinity of the beach, and already closed due to the late hour, spotted her under the portico of the public establishment, lying on a beach bed, which, in the absence of a bed, had been converted into a bed for the night.
Although at first she did not want to accept out of modesty, the old lady was later convinced and was accompanied to the hotel, moved by the generosity.
The next morning she returned to her home in the province of Udine.
