Carabinieri killed in a road accident in CampagnaThe driver of the SUV that caused the crash has been arrested. In the early hours of this morning, the Flying Squad of Salernoassisted by staff from the Central Traffic Police Directorate of Roma and of the Central Cabinet of Scientific Police, executed an order implementing the precautionary measure of the house arrestissued by the Office of the Judge for Preliminary Investigations at the Court of Salerno, in acceptance of the requests of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, against Nancy Lilianoinvestigated for the crime of multiple aggravated vehicular homicide.
The provision in question relates to the very serious road accident which occurred on 6 April, following which two Carabinieri soldiers, who were traveling in an official car, lost their lives, as well as the driver of a third vehicle. On this occasion, another soldier who was driving the vehicle was seriously injured, suffering a fracture of his collarbone and pelvis. According to the reconstruction of the event accepted by the investigating judge, on the aforementioned evening, at 11.00 pm, during a reconnaissance service, the three soldiers, belonging to the Campagna Carabinieri Station Command, near the SS91, Via Calli height, turning left , were violently hit on the right side by the Range Rover Evoque cardriven by the suspect, coming from the opposite direction. The Range Rover, turning one hundred and eighty degrees following the impact, che also collided with the front of a Fiat Puntodriven by a 75-year-old resident of Campagna.
Following the accident, one of the soldiers died instantly, despite the resuscitation attempts of the 118 personnel who intervened on site, while the other two Carabinieri were transported to the “Maria SS. Sorrowful” by Eboliwhere one of them, arriving in critical condition, died as a result of his injuries. The man on board the Fiat Punto, however, was transported to the “Santa Maria della Speranza” hospital in Battipagliawas admitted to the intensive care unit with a guarded prognosis but, due to polytrauma, he died after a few days. Liliano, driver of the Range Rover, transported to the “San Francesco D’assisi” hospital in Oliveto Citra, was found to havepositive to the alcohol test, with a detected rate of 0.54 g/litre in the blood, as well as to the precursor of cocaine.
The resulting investigations, coordinated by this Public Prosecutor’s Office, were carried out by the local Flying Squad and by the Central Automotive Analytics and Forensics Laboratory of the Rome Traffic Police Service, through the acquisition and analysis of videos extrapolated from video surveillance systems , planimetric and photogrammetric surveys of the affected area, in order to carry out a reconstruction of the dynamics of the accident, the speed of the vehicles involved and to collect every element useful for ascertaining the facts and responsibilities. According to the reconstruction of this Office, currently considered to be founded by the judge, the Range Rover Evoque would have arrived at the site of the impact at a average speed between 128 km/h and 133 km/hprobably following an extreme braking attempt, would have hit the police car a circa 114km/h. The SUV was therefore traveling well at 64 km/h in addition to the speed limit which in that area is 50 km/h.
