Manchester City footballers won Sunday’s final of the English League Cup and won the first trophy of the season. At Wembley Stadium, which reached less than 8,000 spectators, Tottenham Hotspur defeated just 1: 0.
The hero of the duel was the French defender Aymeric Laporte, who in the 82nd minute decided the triumph of “Citizens” with his head. They won the League Cup for the fourth year in a row and a total of eight times in history.

The Manchester club had more of the game and chances throughout the match, but for a long time it could not stand up against Tottenham, which focused on a careful defense. After 27 minutes Sergio Reguilon made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to Phil Fodena who shuffled it past the keeper. Five minutes later, Fernandinho pushed Raheem Sterling out, but his lob missed the goal.
At the end of the half, Riyad Mahrez narrowly missed twice. His shot came in from the right hand side but Hugo Lloris managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop. A free kick just outside of the visitors’ penalty area after 82 minutes could have resulted in another goal, but Laporte got a hand out and tipped the ball over the bar. Even in the end, the Spurs could not exert significant pressure and City already maintained a close lead.
