The whole of the Chelsea will face Barrow on Tuesday in the third round of the Carabao Cup. The ‘Blues’ want to assert their hegemony against a team that on paper looks weaker for this match of the English Cup.
The Carabao Cup third round draw will be between Chelsea and Barrow for the first time since the Blues won the FA Cup at home in 1948 by 5-0 in Stamford Bridge.
How do they get there?
The current League Two leaders fell short on both previous occasions, losing 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. This is the first of four consecutive home games at the Bridge for the Blues, taking us into the October international break, and gives us the chance to record our second home win of the campaign.
Chelsea have an exemplary record against lower-division teams in this competition, having beaten AFC Wimbledon, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough on their way to last season’s final. The Blues were eventually beaten by a Liverpool goal in extra time in Wembley.

Chelsea have finished runners-up in three of the last six seasons but have not won the League Cup since 2015, their longest such run since 1998.
The Blues have won five times and have reached the fourth round in all but one of the last 13 seasons. The only defeat was against Manchester City in 2022.
