Car tax, what to do to stop paying it: amazing news. 2023 begins with an important confirmation for all motorists
The car taxes affect all motor vehicles and the car tax it makes no difference. At least once a year it must be paid to the Region, or to the Revenue Agency as happens in Veneto and Calabria. But there is also a possibility, absolutely legal, for don’t pay it more.

Car tax, what to do to stop paying it: the Regions decide
In Piedmont there is an exemption for 5 years from the first registration if the hybrid car has a power not exceeding 100 kW. Electric cars, on the other hand, benefit from the permanent exemption. In Lombardy hybrids registered after 1 January 2019 pay 50% of the road tax for the first five years while electric cars are exempt for life.
In Campania hybrid cars do not pay road tax for three years, starting from the date of first registration. There are also 5 years of tax exemption for electric cars, motorcycles and electric mopeds from the date of first registration.
L’Emilia Romagna has decided that hybrid cars with first registration in 2021 do not pay property tax for three years (2021, 2022 and 2023). However, this is only if the amount does not exceed 191 euros per year, while there are 5 years of exemption for electricity.
In Abruzzo, three years of exemption from paying property tax for hybrid cars and five years of exemption for electric cars, motorcycles and electric mopeds, starting from the first registration. Instead in Calabria there are no exemptions for hybrid cars but there are 5 years of exemption from paying car tax starting from the date of first registration for electric cars
In the Lazio no car tax, for hybrid cars in the first three years after registration. Electric cars and electric motorcycles and mopeds do not pay road tax for 5 years from the date of first registration. In Basilicata, hybrid cars with first registration starting from 2015 have 5 years of tax exemption for electric cars, mopeds and electric motorcycles. In Liguria, there are 5 years of exemption for hybrid cars, just like electric ones.
Exemptions on car tax, how they work in Italy region by region: there are some differences
In Marche exemption is provided for hybrid cars for 6 years following first registration and 5 years for electric cars and in Molise hybrids are exempt from property tax for two years from first registration, but hybrids for 5. In Friuli-Venezia Giulia does not pay the car tax for the first three years from the date of registration of the hybrid and electric cars for five years from the date of first registration.
In Veneto 3 years of exemption for hybrids and five years, from the date of first registration, for electric cars. Even better in Puglia: 6 years for hybrid cars and 5 for electric ones. In the islands? In Sardinia 5 years only for electric and in Sicily 3 years for hybrids and 5 for electric.
Finally, in the Autonomous Province of Trento such as that of Bolzano 5 years for hybrid and electric, in Tuscany and in Umbria no exemption for hybrid cars and 5 years for hybrids. In Valle D’Aosta hybrid cars do not pay road tax for the following four years, which rises to 5 for electric cars.
