Car stuck under trailer, A59 closed at Nieuwkuijk

A passenger car ended up under a trailer on the A59 highway near Vlijmen on Friday afternoon. Three people had to go to hospital. Rijkswaterstaat and the police report that due to the accident, the A59 is temporarily closed to Nieuwkuijk, in the direction of the Zonzeel junction. This is necessary, among other things, for police investigations.

The two people who were in the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The trailer was on the hard shoulder and was attached to a van of a company that carries out maintenance work for Rijkswaterstaat. One employee has also been hospitalized. A colleague of his went into shock, a 112 correspondent reported.

According to that correspondent, the passenger car was traveling at a high speed. It is unknown why the car ended up in the emergency lane.

Fire brigade frees occupants
The accident was reported around five to one. Rescuers were immediately alerted and came to the scene en masse. An air ambulance has also landed. Police said the occupants were freed from their car by firefighters.

Rijkswaterstaat expects that one lane can be released around a quarter past three and that all repair work will be finished around five o’clock on Friday afternoon.

Traffic from Den Bosch to the Zonzeel junction is routed via the exit and access ramp. The ANWB advises to drive via Tilburg and to take the N65 and the A58. By three o’clock there was still a traffic jam of 5 kilometers and the delay, which at one time was over an hour, was just under fifteen minutes.
