(Elbil24): Electric cars have long since become the preferred choice for Norwegians who buy a new car. Electric cars offer state-of-the-art technology and it’s been a while since people talked about it range anxiety.
The charging infrastructure in Norway is better than ever and the conditions are right for more and more people to be able to choose an electric car as their car.
For families with small children, however, it is important to know that the car they choose is well suited for car seats. The member organization Naf has therefore tested 11 family electric cars to see which have the best space for car seats.

Jansrud: – Scary to push the boundaries so much
Of the selected family electric cars, only 2 have room for three child seats. A newcomer disappoints, while the best-seller Tesla Model Y does not have room for three children’s seats in its width.
41 cars checked – children are the safest here
This is how Naf has tested:
In the test, Naf looked at how much space the front passenger gets when a car seat is fitted in the back seat. They have tested this with the following two models:
- Babystolen Cybex Cloud Z2 i-Size
- Child seat Axkid ONE 2 (rear-facing). Axkid ONE 2 can be adjusted in several directions, but generally requires a lot of space and gives a good impression of how much space there is in the car.
Naf states that the car seats are adjusted the same during all the tests and that it is senior communications advisor Nils Sødal at Naf who is used as a passenger. He is 189 centimeters tall.
To find out which of the electric cars can accommodate three car seats at the same time, Naf has used these three models:
- Cybex Cloud Z2 i-Size (Isofix)
- BeSafe iZi Flex FIX i-Size (forward-facing with Isofix)
- BeSafe Stretch (rear-facing with belt mounting).
The electric cars tested:
- VW ID.Buzz
- Tesla Model X
- Tesla Model Y
- Hyundai Ioniq 5
- Kia EV6 GT
- VW ID.5 Pro
- Skoda Enyaq Coupé RS
- Maxus Euniq6
- Voyah Free
- Hongqi E-HS9
- JAC e-JS$
Three chairs in ID.Buzz and Model X
In the test, it is clear that only two of the tested electric cars can accommodate three car seats at the same time in a satisfactory manner. Model X gets a little traction because there is less legroom for the front seat passenger when car seats are installed in both the second and third row of seats.
In this test, both the Model X and the Hongqi E-HS9 have three rows of seats, but the latter fails in the attempt to have three car seats fitted at the same time.
Neither the best-selling Tesla Model Y nor the spacious Maxus Euniq6 can accommodate three car seats in width. The side seats simply end up too far out in relation to the Isofix mounts.
Many sloppiness: – Can have fatal consequences
Impresses with two chairs
If you can manage with two car seats in the back seat, the Maxus Euniq6 is a very good choice. According to Nils Sødal, this is the electric car that provides the best legroom for front passengers. In the Model Y, it gets a little cramped in the front when the largest car seat is installed in the back seat.
This problem also occurs with the VW ID.5 Pro, Skoda Enyaq Coupé RS and Hyundai Ioniq5. The cars work perfectly when using the smallest seat, but the space in front is significantly reduced if the largest seat is used.
The Kia EV6 GT and Voyah Free impress greatly and provide plenty of space for two chairs, even when the largest one is in use. The newcomer JAC e-JS4 does not quite reach the top, writes Naf. With the large car seat (Axkid) in the back seat, there is very little room for the front passenger.
