Guillermo Rosales Zarate, Deputy Director General of the AMDA, explained that the first quarter ended with the sale of 259 thousand 013 light vehicles, which represented a decrease of 12.71 percent compared to the same period last year.
Regarding the sale of new units in March 2021, the manager reported that 95 thousand 487 light vehicles were sold, a figure 9.08 percent higher than the 87 thousand 541 units of the same month of the previous year, which marks an increase of 7 thousand 946 sold units.
“The light vehicle market in March was higher than the expectation of AMDA, which was located around 83,684 cars, “said Rosales.
Among the factors that contribute to this record, he explained, are the increase in social mobility, the commercial promotions of the shipowners and their distribution networks, in addition to the completion of operations that were lagging behind due to the suspension of activities for the month from January.
It is important, he explained, to note that this year there was an additional working day compared to the previous year; Likewise, in March 2020, the impact of the covid pandemic began in the automotive market by decreasing sales of light automobiles by up to 25 percent compared to the previous year.
“For the month of April, it is expected to maintain positive data in comparison with the same period of the previous year by virtue of the fact that in 2020 the closure of operations in the sales floors and a very strong social isolation due to covid, which resulted in a 64.49 percent crash versus April 2019, “he said.
