(Elbil24): Another month is over, and once again we can look back on a month where a good number of electric cars have been registered. The most positive thing, of course, is that soon all registered cars will be an electric car, or at least a zero-emission car.

In June alone, 11,722 electric cars were registered on Norwegian plates, despite the fact that the waiting lists are still infinitely long for many models.

It is nevertheless clear that it has finally loosened up for several models that have so far been stagnant. VW has gained good speed on VW ID.4, and registered 1,244 in June, while Skoda has finally got the plug out of the bathtub. Thus, it has brought in 1,052 cars of the long-awaited Enyaq, in different variants. In addition, BMW has picked up steam with the BMW i4 in mind, which thousands are waiting for.

With close to 12,000 electric cars delivered, the month must be said to be good. Nevertheless, it was not good enough to beat last year’s June, when a huge 13,184 electric cars were registered in this country. As is well known, June is the last month of the second quarter, and those who follow the registration figures closely know what that means.

Tesla-time

Historically, Tesla has always spit out cars at the end of each quarter, and the second quarter of 2022 was no different. Therefore, it was also Tesla who ran away with a superior victory in the battle to end up at the top of the registration statistics for June, and they did it for good.

Because in June, more than one in five registered electric cars was a Tesla Model Y, something we must be able to call a big slam.

This was more than VW ID. 4 and Skoda Enyaq – number two and three on the list – together. The former is by the way the closest candidate to compete with Model Y for the title of Best Seller of the Year, even though the leap is already large in favor of Tesla. But there is still half a year left.

However, there is a small catch in the June figures, because as we know, we are talking about registration statistics here, not delivery statistics. It has now become known that Tesla has a number of cars that have already been registered, and a similar number of customers who have not had their cars delivered anyway.

The reason is that Tesla has discovered a fault with one or both engines in the Tesla Model Y Performance, and has therefore detained the cars that were not already delivered, even though they are registered to the customers. We still have no reason to believe that we are talking about very many, and as long as you always measure results by the number of registered cars, the statistics remain the same.

Tesla is also not alone in having cars that need to be fixed before they can be delivered. Toyota has registered 47 copies of the bZ4X, most of which were probably intended for dealers, and there have been twelve Subaru Solterra, which probably have the same challenge, as it is the same car as the bZ4X. Ford has also had copies of the Ford Mustang that may need an update, but this is supposed to be in place.

We congratulate Tesla on this month’s most and half of the year’s most registered car. Then it remains to be seen if it can last the year.
