Let us remind you that 115,548 registrations represent an increase compared to the two previous half-years – last year, according to the SDA, 93,171 cars were registered in the country in the second half of the year and 98,916 cars in the first six months.
The statistics for the first half of 2023 are dominated by the Škoda brand, which can be found in the first six ranks – the most popular is Octavia (11,673 registrations), followed by Fabia (5,630 registrations), Kamiq (4,949 registrations), Scala (4,878 registrations), Karoq ( 4,814 registrations) and Kodiaq (4,762 registrations). In seventh place is the Hyundai i30 (3,971 registrations), followed by Škoda Superb (3,721 registrations), Hyundai Tucson (3,395 registrations) and Kia Ceed (2,243 registrations).
But let’s look at the end of the statistics, at the places where we find cars registered in a single copy. It is an extremely interesting sight, because the list of cars is extremely diverse.
That among the “pieces” we can find, for example, the luxurious and very expensive “übercabriolet” Rolls-Royce Dawn, the classy (and again very expensive) limousine Bentley Flying Spur, or specials such as the Alpina 5 (SDA does not say whether it is a B5 or a D5) and Alpina XD3 , probably not surprising. The Maserati Ghibli premium sedan isn’t exactly a mass car, but its only registered car surprised us a little.
We were even more surprised that Audi TT, DS 9, Mercedes-Benz T-Class, Subaru Impreza, Nissan Leaf and Lexus LS have only one registration.
Lexus still has the RZ model in the overview of “parts”, but it has a different situation than the LS. While the LS sedan has been sold in the Czech Republic for a long time, the RZ electric crossover (with the nickname 450e) is a brand new product. In connection with electric cars, the registration of a single example of the Mercedes eCitan, the battery version of the small Citan van, is interesting.
The rest of the one-piece registrations are made up of cars that are no longer in production and were probably registered as storage or demonstration vehicles. Among them we find the Fiat 500L, Hyundai Ioniq and Renault Talisman, cars whose production was discontinued last year. The participation of Citroën C4 Picasso is interesting. The MPV of that name was sold until 2018, then it changed its designation to the C4 SpaceTourer. Production of this model ended last year.

But we can find even older cars in the statistics. One registration was recorded by Škoda Rapid, the production of which was stopped already in 2019. We are of course talking about the European version, cars bearing the Rapid name were sold in Russia and India not long ago, and the Rapid is still on offer for the Chinese market.
Another surprise is the Toyota Verso, a compact MPV whose production ended even in 2018, and the Mitsubishi Lancer, which was produced until 2017. The Japanese automaker still sells the car of this name, but only offers it in some Asian markets. It is therefore likely that someone in the Czech Republic recently registered a car that is more than six years old as new. Would the sporty Evo?
