Car recalls overview of 2022: who made the top ten?

Last year, a total of 207 recall actions were reported to the EU Rapex system, which represents a significant year-on-year improvement. But who occupied the first ranks in their relations?

As in his the website Svolávačky.cz stated in its regular annual report, for the year 2022, 207 automaker recalls were reported to the Rapid Alert System Rapex, affecting 209 models and 37 brands. That’s a fairly significant year-over-year decline.

We remind you that there were 358 recalls for 2021 (270 models and 45 brands), while for 2020 there were 353 recalls (248 models and 38 brands). Some brands, which have had several recalls in the past, have announced only one this year (Dacia, Mitsubishi or Nissan). For example, Alfa Romeo or Subaru reported none.

At the same time, the law requires manufacturers to announce a recall if safety, health or the environment are threatened. However, as the Svolávačky.cz website adds: “Various functional and structural defects in which “only” the customer’s wallet and, in the worst case, the life of the car or the part are at risk, must not be reported anywhere and manufacturers can only preventively repair the so-called service campaigns, product upgrades or TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) to those who undergo regular inspections to authorized services.“

According to labels on the Svolávačky.cz website, fire was among the most common hazards during last year’s convocation events. Crash, Injury, Engine, Electronics, Chassis, Brakes, or Airbags were often used among other frequently used labels for the type of risk. At the same time, several risks can appear during a single recall, and multiple models are often called in a single recall event.

And which automakers have announced recalls most often? With a total of 39 events for 24 models, the car manufacturer took first place Mercedes Benz. He is back in second place Peugeot (15 events/10 models) and penultimate year Volkswagen third with 14 events (12 models). She moved from ninth to fourth place Toyota (14 events/10 models), finished in fifth place like last year Opel (12 actions/10 models).

Sixth citroen (11 events/10 models) follow in seventh place Ford (10 actions/7 models). He took eighth place BMW (8 events/12 models), the ninth position was occupied by the new independent brand DS Cars (8 events/3 models) and closes the top ten Come on (7 actions/7 models).
