A police patrol had seen that the car had collided with a pole in the center of Hasselt. The driver of the car tried to get away, but police tried to stop the vehicle. However, the driver gave full throttle and rammed into a first police vehicle. One officer sustained minor injuries.
Then followed a chase of about ten minutes through Hasselt. At the intersection of Bakkerslaan and Notelarenstraat in Runkst (a district of Hasselt), the police were able to intercept the vehicle.
This resulted in a collision with a second service vehicle. The two occupants, who were known to the police, were arrested. The local police of the Canton Borgloon zone made the determinations because the police of the LRH zone was involved.
